Dear RBES Families:

My name is Ryan McClellan and I am honored to serve as the principal of Red Bud Elementary School.  My goal is to work with the students, parents, teachers, and community to make RBES the best it can be.  This means creating a student-centered school that meets the academic, social, and emotional needs of all students.  I want RBES to be a place that students and teachers want to come to every day to learn, teach, and be challenged, and that the community is proud to call their school.

Our focus academically is to prepare our students for high school and whatever future lies ahead of them beyond our school district.  This begins with an aligned curriculum full of relevant and interesting material, innovative instructional practices that engage students and promote problem-solving and critical-thinking, assessments that are valid, accurate, and reliable, and progress reporting that provides a clear picture of what students know and can do. We will utilize technology and systems of support such as Response to Intervention (RtI) to help all students reach their potential.

We strive to create an environment that is socially healthy for our students by creating opportunities in and out of the classroom that incorporate collaboration with peers.  From Pre-K through 8th grade, our students have the chance to work with each other to learn teamwork, cooperation, and leadership skills.  Our upper grade levels have the chance to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, and we are currently looking at ways to increase student opportunities outside the classroom for even more students.

The emotional needs of students are higher than ever before.  Many of our youth face unbelievable challenges in their everyday lives for a variety of reasons, that make it difficult to focus on academics.  These needs must be addressed before students can be successful academically, and RBES is fortunate to have access to multiple social workers employed by our district, Perandoe Special Education District, and the Human Service Center.  We are also in the beginning stages of implementing a Student Assistance Program that pairs students with a trained adult who can help them with issues they are facing in and out of school. In addition, we strive to promote positive student actions through the "Royal Way" program that highlights being safe, responsible, and respectful.

Schools, like any other organization, will never be able to please everyone.  RBES will, however, always strive to make decisions based on what is best for our students, and do so with the input of students, parents, teachers, and the community.  I invite you to be an active voice in the education of our students, whether you have children in attendance or not.  Continuous improvement can happen when all perspectives are considered.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  I can be reached by phone at 618-282-3858, or by email at rmcclellan@redbud132.org.

Yours in Education,

Ryan McClellan
